I am a student in entering the 4th year of the BGIS program at Selkirk College and currently live in Nelson, BC. I have spent the majority of my working life as an outdoor educator, leader, and guide. I have a passion for our relationship with the natural world and am excited to explore this relationship in new ways through my studies. I was born in Vancouver, BC where I attended Capilano University/College and studied Geology and Physical Geography.  In my current studies, I am particularly interested in Remote Sensing and its applications in inaccessible locations. In the future, I hope to combine my intense love of the wilderness with my newly acquired technological skills.

In addition to my newly acquired skills in GIS , I have been a long time outdoor enthusiast. In particular, I am an avid telemark/backcountry skier, whitewater kayaker and climber. In large part, the relationship I have developed with our natural world through both working and playing in remote wilderness is what has drawn me to a career in GIS. To exercise my creative side, I play the Ukulele (very poorly) and in 2016 applied my lifelong hobby of woodworking to Luthiery  (stringed instrument making) and built my first Ukulele.  I enjoyed the fusion of skills so much that I have been building and selling custom Ukuleles as a hobby ever since. I have been exploring the use of local materials in order to satisfy my personal concerns about the effect that deforestation of exotic hardwoods has on the environment, while still attempting to produce beautiful and great sounding instruments. The passion, respect and protection of our natural environment has and will always be central to both my recreational and professional pursuits.
